RV RENOVATION, REMODEL, AND MAKEOVER, OH MY!
While researching all the new RVs coming out, we realized again how blessed we are that we have a newer RV Travel Trailer for extended RV Camping Trips! However, we are also blessed to have an older RV Motor Home that we can use for quick weekend warrior trips. Consequently, it did require an RV RENOVATION, REMODEL, AND MAKEOVER so that’s where we begin this next journey!
You Don’t HAVE to buy NEW!
First of all, you don’t have to buy a brand new or even “newer” RV to enjoy all the perks of RV Camping! Rather there are things you can do to update, renovate, and remodel an older RV to make it new again! As a result, that’s what we did with our Motor Home (aka THE SOWLEMOBILE).
What All Did SOWLE RV DO To The SOWLEMOBILE?
Certainly, many of you have asked us what all we did to our Motor Home. Therefore, now that we have finally finished the essentials of the Renovation, Remodel, and Makeover, we are going to share exactly THAT with you all. All the way from demolition to the remodel.
WHAT WE KNEW WAS WRONG
Let’s begin with what we knew about this RV to start off with; then we will get into the Renovation, Remodel, and Makeover details. There was water damage in the front bunk from where someone had hit something on the right front corner.
What appeared to be a little water damage was very well hidden by a poor attempt at patching it. With each step of deconstruction, the project grew from days… to weeks… to months as more and more damage was found the more we dug in.
What started off as a quick project turned into a full rebuild and roof replacement, in addition to the remodeling project we thought we were taking on.
WHERE TO BEGIN
If you’re considering taking on a DIY Project like this for an RV, it helps to begin with a list.
First, a list of what NEEDS to be done for the RENOVATION (and put it in order).
Next, a list of what you WANT done for the REMODEL.
Finally, a list of what CHANGES to do for the MAKEOVER part.
First of all, let’s look at the definitions of what we are doing because when we began, Mark and I didn’t really know what to call each step of what we were doing (besides FRUSTRATING)! 😉
Renovation is to “restore or repair”.
Remodel is to “change the structure”.
Makeover is a “transformation”.
OUR LISTS
RENOVATION LIST:
Remove carpet/linoleum from bedroom to living room (including bathroom)
Dye or replace carpet in the lower cab area
Most of the Upper Bunk Cab Area wood and material needs replaced (salvage what doesn’t have any water damage, but material must go and be replaced)
Replace all wood damage in Upper Bunk Area
Replace Wood Valances and Trim throughout that have water damage and reupholster
Remove the “sofa” in the living room
Replacing the Awning Fabric
REMODEL WANTS:
Kitchen Remodel (paint cabinets, replaced hardware, sink faucet replaced, paint fridge)
Bathroom Remodel (paint, paint the sink, paint the shower base, replace the shower head, replace the cracked shower with an insert)
Remodel the Bedroom (paint, replace mattress, replace light fixtures, fix up desk area, paint cabinets, replace hardware)
Living Room Remodel (paint cabinets, RV Camping Furniture to replace whatever the heck they call what’s in it, new flooring)
The Cab area (upper bunk in cab area, replacing curtains)
MAKEOVER CHANGES TO UPDATE:
The Color Scheme: Color changes need to be made; ideas are Black Leather/Vinyl with Grey Trim and Red for “Pop”
Cabinets need painted throughout
Hardware on cabinets need replaced throughout
Replace Bathroom Faucet
Shower needs painted or replaced (*note special sizing needed for shower)
Replace Shower head
Kitchen Faucet replaced
Refrigerator needs painted
New mattress needed in bedroom
Light fixtures could be painted or replaced in bedroom (reading lights)
Living room needs a new sofa, rocking chairs, or theater seating
Front Lower Cab Area needs something done to seats (replaced or reupholstered)
Whatever we do front seats, the barrel chair in living room needs the same done to it
Curtains need removed throughout (want to keep day/night shades)
Curtain dividing the Cab Area to Living Room needs replaced with something much longer for more privacy
The entire thing needs the walls painted throughout
