SOWLE Journeys of Faith
Thankfully the weather was nice here in Kansas and we had highs in the 40’s and 50’s but the lows were in the 20’s. Brrrr!
This is Our Journey to Melvern Lake, RV Camping in January in Kansas [SOWLE Journeys of Faith]!
1.5 Hour to 6.5 Hour Trip
Remember our Second Trip Out we told you about a few months ago when we tried to go to Eisenhower State Park? The one that was supposed to take 1.5 hours and ended up taking 6.5 hours because of a flat tire needing replaced and then we didn’t even make it to that park. Well this is the park and this time we made it just fine even if we were RV Camping in January in Kansas!
Reservations
We called earlier in the day to make reservations because you know me and needing to KNOW we have somewhere to stay when we arrive at night. We were told that there wasn’t anybody there camping so we could have our pick of any site and didn’t need to make reservations. Surprise, surprise! I mean we are RV Camping in January in Kansas!
Eisenhower State Park Entrance [Park in the Dark]
We arrived just a little after 8pm and we picked our site in the dark. I knew by the map we were close to the lake but that didn’t prepare me for what I saw when I opened the front door Saturday morning.
It was a breathtaking view!
My first words to Mark were “you don’t want to sleep another minute. You really want to get up and see this”!
You may recall from our article The First SOWLE RV Christmas Journey that Mark and Aiden REALLY loved seeing the wind turbines in Western Kansas. Similarly, we could see some wind turbines right from our campsite! They were both so excited! The photos just don’t do it any justice at all, but I’ll show you for the sake of the surprise of how close to the lake we were.
Pups Enjoyed the Trip
All 5 puppies had a great time running around in this nice open space. They all crashed out on the drive home.
Wind Turbines
Get Up Already!
Aiden slept in super late on Saturday morning (typical teenager) and I finally just said “I’m waking him up. There’s no way he is going to miss this view from his window!”
Aiden LOVED his view from his little “window room” area in the motorhome! The campsites were setup in perfect ways, that I’m sure in the summertime, will be very difficult to get. I certainly am eager to try though!
Boats on the Water in January
I was surprised to see 3 or 4 boats on the lake as well. I’m sure they were fishing but there was a ski boat that seemed to be just out for fun. Like I said before, it was supposed to be I the lower 50’s that day but the wind was blowing at 15 mph, so it had to be COLD on the water, especially first thing in the morning. They seemed to enjoy it nonetheless!
Beautiful Wildlife
A little later in the morning we saw our first Pelican in Kansas! As a matter of fact, it was a large flock of them! They ended up circling around and landed on the water so I could take this beautiful photo of them! There were many ducks on the water as well a bit later. I got a nice little visit from a male and female cardinal on Sunday before we left to head home.
Conclusion of RV Camping in January in Kansas [SOWLE Journeys of Faith]
Best Trip By Far
This was one of the most relaxing trips we have taken in a while.
I’m super excited to say we had NO crazy events this trip!
FINALLY!!!
THAT is a SOWLE Journeys of Faith right there!
The only issue we had was there was no camp host around so we weren’t able pay for our stay while we were there but we left a note at the front office and called in on Monday morning and were able to pay that way!!
Everybody Has a Story to Tell
Everyone has had that moment (or more) where they knew something that happened was destined to happen. The blessing that occurred at just the right moment (even if maybe it wasn’t exactly what you had been praying for). It was just supposed to be THIS WAY moment. It felt right. We love hearing peoples stories about those divine moments when something happened and you just knew it was supposed to. We would love to hear YOUR story! We plan to add a section on our website for YOUR stories! If you would like to share your story and be considered for having it added to our site, send us a message below and we will get in contact with you.
