Top 7 Outdoor RV Camping Games
“I’m bored”! Most parents hear this from their kids at some point while camping but in our case it’s usually the ADULTS! Haha! So, what better way to spend time with family and friends than to play games! While camping, weather permitting, outdoor games is what we enjoy! There have been some questions about the rules of the game and how you score so we have included everything here, so you know for sure! The following is a list of the Top 7 Outdoor RV Camping Games to play and they can be played pretty much anywhere!
#1 CORNHOLE OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
Players
2 or 4
Setup
Find a flat ground space to play Cornhole. Place boards 27 feet between the front of each board directly across from each other. If playing with 2 players, decide which side of the board you want to throw from and when its time to switch sides you will walk directly to space across from you; if playing with 4 players, you play as partners and that partner will be direct across from you. Next, decide what color you or your team wants to be (there are always 2 different colors of beanbags). Each player or team gets 4 bags.
Instructions
You decide who goes first, then start taking turns throwing the bags towards the boards!
Rules
When all bags have been tosses to the other side, it’s time to add up the score per player/team. Whoever scores the most points gets to throw 1st from the other side (if the score is equal at the end of the throws, whoever threw 1st in the last round will throw 1st again).
Fouls
Your feet cannot go past the front of the board.
A bag may not touch the ground and then bounce onto the board nor can it hang off the board touching the ground (if this happens, the player must go pick up the bag and no points are counted for that bag on that turn).
Scoring
A bag on the board is = 1 point
A bag that went into the hole = 3 points
Equal points cancel each other out (example: 1 of your bags went into the hole then your opponents’ bag went into the hole) = 0 points for both
Winning
The winner of the game goes to whoever reaches 21 points with a lead of 2 or more points without going over! The 1stteam to win 2 games wins the match!
Proper Etiquette
There are terms that can and should be used during the game. First, you should yell “Boarder” when a bag ends up on the board. Next, be sure to yell “Cornhole” when a bag ends up in the hole. Additionally, you should yell the term “Holy Moly Triple Cornholy” when 3 bags get thrown in the hole during one play. Another fun term to use is “Corn on the Cob” and that is when a player gets every bag on the board during one play. Finally, our favorite is yelling “Nothin’ but Corn” which is when a bag is thrown right through the hole without touching the board at all! “Whoosh” is also used.
Playing Cornhole at night is super fun, especially for kids! Here are the lights we use for our Cornhole Boards!
#2 LADDER TOSS (aka Ladder Golf) OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
Players
2 or more players or teams
Setup
Find a flat ground space to play Ladder Toss. Place the ladders 15 feet apart from each other. Determine a “Toss Line”.
Instructions
You decide who goes first, then start tossing the bolas towards the ladders one at a time and one player at a time! Each player gets 3 bolas to toss. Player one will toss all 3 bolas and then the next player tosses their 3.
Rules
Tossing the bolas may be done however the players choose (if they are thrown individually) and they may bounce off the ground and land on the ladder to score as well. The winner of the round tosses 1st in the next round. You must not go over 21 points. If you score over 21 points, your score goes back to the score you had before that round began. Knocking opponents’ bolas off the ladder with your bola is encouraged.
Tie
The players that are tied will play overtime rounds (and as many as it takes) until one player ends the round 2 points ahead of the other player. The “2 points ahead” rule is ONLY when there’s a tie.
Scoring
TOP Step = 3 points
MIDDLE Step = 2 points
BOTTOM Step = 1 point
Bolas knocked off any Step during play = 0 points
Bonus Points
Hang all 3 bolas on the same Step in one round = 1 bonus point
Hang one bola on each of the 3 Steps (1, 2, & 3) in one round = 1 bonus point
Proper Etiquette
Distracting the opponent is allowed (sounds, movements, and taunting) BUT there is no touching the opponent and no direct blocking of the ladder.
Winning
The 1st person to 21 points without going over is the winner!
If you LOVE Cornhole and Ladder Toss, the Cornhole Combo Scorer is an awesome addition for scoring those two games!
#3 GIANT YARD PONG (aka Bucket Ball) OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
Players
2 or more (teams if more than 2)
Setup
Find a concrete or flat ground space to play Giant Yard Pong. Setup a triangle shape with the 6 buckets opposite each other 15-25 feet apart.
Instructions
Either throw or bounce the ball into the other teams’ buckets and eliminate all the other teams’ buckets before they eliminate yours. Start throwing from behind your buckets.
Rules
Throwing a ball into a bucket = remove that bucket from the triangle setup
Bouncing a ball into a bucket = remove that bucket from the triangle setup AND one of the shooters choice buckets gets removed as well
Bounce-Out: If a ball goes in and bounces back out, it doesn’t count.
Scoring
There are no points given in this game.
Proper Etiquette
Throwing balls at other players is not allowed. Pouting is not allowed.
Winning
As soon as one team (or player) eliminates all the other’s teams (or players’) buckets, they win!
#4 HORSESHOES OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
Players
2 players or 2 teams of 2 people
Setup
Set out 4 horseshoes and 2 throwing targets (stakes that are pushed in the ground) and placed 40 feet apart.
Instructions
The first player tosses 2 horseshoes (one at a time) at the opposite stake. Then the second players do the same. After scoring, the game continues in the same way, going the opposite direction.
Rules
You can play horseshoes with the plastic or metal horseshoes. Horseshoes are never allowed to be thrown in any direction except towards the stakes. If anyone throws in any other direction, they are disqualified.
Scoring
Scoring is done by throwing “ringers” by throwing horseshoes closest to the stake, it completely encircles the stake and that player received three points. The next way to score is called a “live shoe” and is not a ringer but comes to rest 6” or closer to the stake gets one point. A “leaner” when the horseshoe ends up leaning on the stake, gets two points. If both of one player’s horseshoes are closer than the opponent’s, that player gets two points.
Proper Etiquette
Some people consider this a very serious game, especially when playing with older adults who grew up playing this game. Don’t consider mocking or poking fun in any manner! Hahaha!
Winning
Playing continues until the first person reaches 15 points at the end of the round for kids or 40 points for adults.
#5 JARTS (safer than Lawn Darts) OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
Players
2 players or 2 teams of 2 people
Setup
Jarts is based on the game of ‘Horseshoes’ but uses target rings in place of stakes that you place 40 feet apart.
Instructions
During each round, 1 person stands in the ‘toss’ area and alternates tossing their 2 Jarts at the target ring.
Rules
The Jarts are not allowed to be thrown in any direction other than towards the target ring. Any player throwing any other direction will be disqualified.
Scoring
Be the first player or team to score 21 points. Land in the ring, you (or your team) get 3 points or get closer than your opponent and get 1 point.
Proper Etiquette
This is a fun game to be played by all ages of family and friends. Have fun playing, but don’t throw the Jarts at each other! This is NOT the 1960’s original Lawn Dart game, but people can still be hurt!
Winning
Playing continues until the first person or team reaches 15 points (some go to 40 points for an extended game)
#6 SPIKEBALL OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
Players
Typically a four-player game with two teams of two or you can play with 6 players with 3 players per team.
Setup
One team on each side with the Spikeball round net in between them.
Instructions
The starting team will hit the ball onto the net toward the opposing team.
Rules
The objective is to hit the ball onto the net to where the opposing team cannot return it. Then, the opposing teams’ goal is to hit it off the net and back to the other team. The rules of this game are very similar to volleyball. Each team has the chance of 3 hits to hit it back to the other team but the same player may not hit the ball twice within one play.
Scoring
Points are awarded every serve. Points are given when the ball hits the ground. A point is awarded to the other team if the ball hits on the outside of the net on the circular plastic rim.
Proper Etiquette
All hits must be one-handed. Punching, hitting, setting, and bumping are all allowed but only towards the ball, not each other or opposing team!
Winning
The first team to get to 21 points with 2 points ahead wins!
#7 KNOCKOFF TOSS GAME (aka Polish Horseshoes) OF THE TOP 7 OUTDOOR RV CAMPING GAMES
What is our fetish with throwing objects at other objects?!??
Players
2 player and up
Setup
You can play this game on sand, grass, or hard floors. Place the two stands 20-30 feet apart. Then place a fun target of your choice on top of the platform on each stand.
Players (or teams) take turns throwing the disc at the object (of your choice) that rests on the top of the stakes in the ground pole with a flat top.
Instructions
Each team player stands behind their poles. The object of the game is to throw the disc and hit either the object or the pole of the opposing team and knock the object off the pole. The other team will be trying to catch the object if it’s hit as well as catch the disc.
Rules
You must stay behind the pole. If you step in front of the pole and catch object or disc, the throwing team gets 2 points! If you knock off your own object off your own pole the other team get 2 points!
Scoring
Only the team throwing the disc can score points.
Catch the flying disc the other team threw = 0 points
If you drop the flying disc (thrown from the other team) = 1 point for the throwing team
Drop the target when it’s hit and falls = 2 points to the throwing team
Drop the target and the flying disc = 3 points to the throwing team
Proper Etiquette
