Understanding Global Big Day
The Essence of Global Big Day
Global Big Day is an annual event that invites any and all birdwatchers of all levels and abilities to observe and record bird species over a 24-hour period. Initiated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, this event emphasizes the importance of bird conservation, helps increase public awareness, and fosters a global community of “citizen scientists”. By participating in Global Big Day in May, ordinary bird observers contribute to one of the largest biodiversity data sets in the world, aiding conservation efforts and helping scientists track long-term trends in bird populations.
